Electric Dog Collars: What Are They?

Are you bothered by your dogs’ constant barking? You should be, because there are a lot of possible issues that could crop up. For example, neighbors would be knocking at your door, bringing their complaint letters. If you can’t do anything with your dog after then, maybe it would be the town officials’ turn. You really don’t want to find yourself in such a mess, do you? What you need then are electric dog collars.
What are these electric dog collars?
These are devices that are usually attached in dogs as a way of disciplining them, especially when it comes to their barks. They work with the use of ultrasonic waves, which are emitted when the collar “hears” the barking sounds or vibrations. These sounds will not be heard by the human beings, so they are completely safe and not annoying to anyone. However, since dogs are known to have high hearing capacity, they would be able to pick up the sound. The high pitch will be enough to startle and stop them from barking.
What are their features?
Electric dog collars usually come with adjustable collars, but depending on the size of the neck of the dogs. The smallest one would probably be great for dogs that have no more than 16 inches in neck size, while the bigger ones can accommodate to as much as 28 inches.
It’s essential that you know the neck size of your dog. Even if these collars can be adjusted and have excellent buckle system, they also have their own size limit. You don’t want your dog to feel too choked up or gagged. His or her neck should also be restricted to create movements.
Moreover, electric dog collars have perfect bark detection technology. This means that the collar will only “listen” to the vibrations or sounds produced by your dog. There are other collars that make use of microphones, which, unfortunately, can get other kinds of sounds such as the barks of other dogs.
It might be difficult for your dog to really determine the real cause of the high-pitch sound, which is actually his or her own bark. Simply put, it may impede in your idea of disciplining him or her.
Electric collars can also be adjusted depending on the correction level you need or want. Dogs can definitely learn that the sound is reproduced because of their barks. If they are able to manage their barks more effectively, it’s only right that you would also adjust the correction level to a much lower setting.
Is this safe for dogs?
The answer is yes. After all, the real purpose of electric dog collars is not to subject them to torture or punishment. Rather, they are used for corrective measures. The sounds can disappear quickly and would not cause any damage to the hearing ability of your dog. A lot of dog owners can testify to this. As mentioned, you can also adjust the correction level of the collars to complement with the temperament of your dog.

Device to Stop My Dog Barking – Do They Work?

If you are at your wit’s end to stop your dog’s constant barking and you are sick and tired of being embarrassed when you take your dog out and he is continually barking at other dogs then at some point or other you must have thought “If only there was a device to stop my dog barking”. Now trust me, you are not alone in this situation, dog owners everywhere worry about their dog’s barking and the effect it has, not only on them as owners, but on the neighbors as well. I too have suffered from the frustrations of a very vocal dog and so I spent a while researching on line what devices are available on the marketplace and do they work? There are various devices available, depending on how much money you can afford to spend and these are namely:Spray collars – These collars work on the basis that when your dog barks they emit a spray of citronella into the dog’s face. Most reviews say that they had little effect on their dog’s barking. Some of the collars were too heavy for the dogs and in a short space of time they learnt to outbark the spray. Anti shock collars – these work on the basis that when a dog first barks they hear a beep sound and if this is followed by them barking again then they receive a mild electric shock. Persistent barking results in the shock getting more intense. I personally, and an awful lot of dog owners find this method inhumane since different regulations in different countries mean you can never be sure of the intensity of the shock administered. Ultrasonic dog barking devices – these work on the concept that an internal microphone picks up the sound of your dog barking within a certain radius, and emits a shrill noise that cannot be heard by humans. Mixed reviews state that the device works initially because it puzzles the dog, but then quite quickly the dogs get used to it and simply ignore the sound. The devices are also pretty hefty on batteries! After reading a great many reviews on devices to stop my dog barking I came to the conclusion that there is no “quick fix” solution and you have to be willing to spend a lot of time and patience on understanding why your dog is barking before you can go ahead and control the barking.
How Do I Stop the Neighbors Dog From Constantly Barking All the Time When They Are Not Home?

When they’re home, it’s all good. But as soon as they leave, it’s non stop bark, bark, bark. I live in an apartment, and complaints to the office have gone unfulfilled. The people are pricks to say the least, and when asked if they might be able to do something about it, they respond “it’s a dog. Thats what they do.”
Any suggestions for this problem? Anything I might be able to buy from a store? I’m willing to try anything at this point.
Oh, I should also mention that I have 2 cats and don’t want to use anything that might freak them out. I’m not sure if dog whistles are heard by cats.
And before someone mentions it, I don’t want to move. This is the sweetest place money can rent.
Thanks in advance.
