I have a small dog that all he does is bark….it’s driving me crazy and it gets my big dog barking too!! My lab doesn’t bark unless someone is here….the little one barks just to hear himself, so it gets the big one going.
He is crate trained already and will bark even while in there.

How Can I Stop My Dog From Constantly Barking at Every Noise and at People?

Whenever my dog goes outside he is usually good but as soon as he sees another person he starts barking and barking and will not stop. The other day when we were stepping out the door he jumped onto one of the neighbors and started jumping all around his feet and barking at him. When we are inside he barks at any and every sound he hears. I have a training book that states to keep him away from these distractions but how can I keep him away from people and noise. He is a 10-month old Yorkshire Terrier. I just don’t know what to do. We live in an apartment so he is always going to see other people and hear noises from outside or wherever so it is impossible to remove the things that seems to make him bark. Any help will be appreciated.
Stop Your Dog From Barking Constantly

There can be alot of reasons why a dog would bark almost constantly. Although this may be annoying, there may be some good reasons for the barking. Your Dog could be trying to warn you of a problem or let you know it is in pain.
There are other negative reasons why you dog would be showing this behavior. They could be trying to gain attention or be deliberately acting out.
Whatever the reason, a dog that won’t quit barking can certantly give you a headache. If the problem is persistant there are some tips that you can try.
Often, you can get your dog to stop barking by using a type of training. There are some specific methods and tools to help with the problem of a barking dog.
Many cases of incessant barking can be stoped by using training and a reward and reprimand system where you teach the dog when to bark and when not to. When the dog barks at the wrong time, they are scolded and told “no barking”. When do well and refrain from barking when they shouldn’t be, praise and reward them to reinforce this positive behavior.
If the problem can not be stoped this way, you can choose to consider buying a bark collar. A bark collar will deliver a small electric shock when it detects the dog barking. The shock provides only minor discomfort and does not actually hurt the dog. It should be noted that some owners don’t like this method as a matter of choice.
There is also another type of device on the market that instead of a shock delivers a mist of citronella. Dogs aren’t fond of the smell and they soon realize it is caused by their barking.
In some rare and extreme cases, your vet may consider your dog a candidate a type of debarking surgery. This surgery involves the removal of a fold of tissue from the dog’s larynx which makes the dog unable to bark. This procedure is not always effective and is not widely preformed.
While a barking dog can drive you nuts, as you can see it’s not a problem that can’t be fixed. With the right amount of patience and training, you can put an end to your dog’s annoying habit.
How Do I Stop My Dog From Constantly Barking at Other Dogs?

I rescued a dog last March, she turned 3 in February. She was always left in the back hallway and reeked of her own feces and urine. Never was walked, didn’t even know what a treat was when I gave her one…just dropped it on the floor. She had no obedience prior to when I rescued/adopted her, was not house broken and/or potty trained.
Since then, I have worked with her effortlessly. (I also have a 7 year old Yellow Lab that has also helped me control her when out walking…wasn’t planned, but he barks at her if she jumps on someone or misbehaves…and she listens to him!!)
I have taken her to doggy beaches, parks, outdoor summer fests where there are other dogs. It seems that when there are tons of dogs/people – it’s almost like she’s overstimulated and doesn’t bark at all.
When walking her she barks like crazy at other dogs, I have realized that if I make her sit, rub her ears and tell her “It’s okay.” that it changes to a whine/whimper with sporadic yelps. But it doesn’t always work – try 40% of the time.
I don’t want other dogs or their owners to be afraid, because what I’ve come to realize is that she LOVES dogs and is a major sweetheart – it’s just that when she sees one and it’s far away she will continue to bark, unless it crosses our path and I let her sniff the dog. Then everything is back to normal. But, I’m afraid that if I allow for her barking to get her way while walking, that she will think that she’s in control. I mean if she barks and barks and barks and I just do what’s easiest and take her 2 blocks to the dog that she sees, I don’t believe that’s a good resolution. As an owner, I know that’s the last thing that you want your dog to think. And the other dogs and their owners cannot help but feel threatened and I tell them she’s super friendly and for some reason barks her head off until she can run up and sniff/jump on them.
So, how do I stay in control and remain the Alpha Dog and get her to stop barking her head off. It’s more or less like she’s barking and barking until I give in for us to walk up to the dog for her to see and play with – and she’ll start barking at a dog 2-3 blocks away!
Another issue, is that I’ve trained her not to jump on me and have told my friends that when they come over they need to be stern and tell her “No” and “down” or “sit” and that until she sits and behaves that they are not allowed to praise her. It doesn’t help that all my friends own cats and are not used to this…haha. Finally, one friend did as I said to do, and he was amazed at how quickly she stopped trying to jump on him and realized that when he said “NO, Sit.” in a stern voice, how she listened and then he pet her. She also sporadically jumps at walker-bys while on the leash – so I feel I NEED to keep her on a short leash. The last thing I’d want is for her to do that to an elderly person or younger child and knock them down. I just feel that her previous owners kept her in such seclusion – that she’s so overwhelmed with people, puppies, new trees to smell, etc..that she just can’t control how excited she is when she sees other people and/or animals.
My question is this…is there a way for me to train her to NOT jump on OTHER people – she won’t do it to me – but it’s like she tests everyone else to see if she can get away with it.
Just for an FYI, I walk her on a harness that apparently has metal loops that lay on her shoulders and when she tugs it’s supposed to hit pressure points to make her heal better – however, I’m not so sure that this $35 harness was the best buy.
She has come a LONG way from when I first got her, and was 10x as hyper/crazy than she is now…
So, I guess this has 2 questions. Please help, I long for enjoyable walks…

kenna – actually I tried “it’s okay” because it seemed to relax her in thunderstorms and with fireworks going on around 4th of July…and it’s the only thing so far that has worked. I really don’t want to get a muzzle.
Have tried the pinch collars – but that doesn’t control her sporadic jumping – that’s where the harness works and the pinch collar fails…At least the harness controls more than just the neck…
darlene – hmm..this will be hard to do while walking two large dogs…. ;o)

I don’t leave my dogs outside all day…this is while we’re on a walk. That wouldn’t work.
How Do I Stop the Neighbors Dog From Constantly Barking All the Time When They Are Not Home?

When they’re home, it’s all good. But as soon as they leave, it’s non stop bark, bark, bark. I live in an apartment, and complaints to the office have gone unfulfilled. The people are pricks to say the least, and when asked if they might be able to do something about it, they respond “it’s a dog. Thats what they do.”
Any suggestions for this problem? Anything I might be able to buy from a store? I’m willing to try anything at this point.
Oh, I should also mention that I have 2 cats and don’t want to use anything that might freak them out. I’m not sure if dog whistles are heard by cats.
And before someone mentions it, I don’t want to move. This is the sweetest place money can rent.
Thanks in advance.
