i have a basset hound puppy. when i am home, i let him stay inside with me. but when im at work i put him outside in his pen. the problem is that when he my neighbors, he will bark nonstop for hours. he is a great dog, but i just dont want to piss off my neighbors. is there any way to teach him to stop barking so much?

    well find out why he barks. once u find out everytimes he looks at the object or person give him a treat so he knows its good. and if u leave him alone that much give him a kong. one of those rubber toys that u can bput peanut butter in it and freeze and there ya go ebtertainment for at least an hour

    Your puppy needs to learn to be in the pen when you are home as well as away. Train him by hiding out of sight. Get your neighbors to come out–when the dog barks, appear and gently correct him with a touch or word/sound that gets his attention. Repeat, repeat, repeat….Good luck! I have owned 2 Bassetts–they are adorable but stubborn and not the brightest breed.

    It’s in a dog’s nature to bark. They enjoy barking, and they bark for many reasons. They will bark when they want something, when they are playing, when they are establishing their territory, when they are frightened, when they are annoyed, and when they are just saying “Hi!”
