Does Anyone Know How to Get Your Dog to Stop Barking?

I have a westie that continuesly barks. I have found out its normal for the breed but what should I do. Every time I try to squirt her she runs from the door, so the only way to get her back inside and stop barking is to offer her a treat. I’m not good at this.

If you even consider debarking your dog, I will know. And I will hunt you down and….. oh sorry I get really emotional when it comes to dogs….. perhaps you should had researched the breed first.
CKC Approved humane anti-bark collars are approximately $150 from a reputable pet supply store. They are very successful and there is no shock or zap involved. The one you want to buy is a citronella spray collar. When the dog barks, the collar shoots a puff of citronella scented mist into the dogs’ face.
You might also ask your veterinarian for a list of problem-trainers to work with your dog and you. Fees are considerably more than the above mentioned bark collar though.

I know it may sound cruel, but a bark collar that gives a little zing (this can be adjusted and be sure to try it on YOURSELF before submitting the dog to it) when the dog barks. That way, the dog is not associating you catching her barking with being bad.
You coming to the door when she is barking is a form of positive reinforcement – this is prolonging the problem. Let her out for a quick “potty” and stand slightly out of sight. When she’s done, call her in before she can bark. Give her a treat when she comes when called, but not if she’s been barking.

Barking collars work. My mom has a beagle that incessantly barked. One Lil shock from that collar and it has been a quiet dog ever since.

ive seen a collar that every time they bark it put out a sound that hurts their ears and then they are supposed to learn not to bark
Sing it a lullaby. I have no idea why but it works. I guess dogs are like babies… but softer.
omg!! that sounds just like my three dogs!!! well som people smack thier dogs.. what you should is you should wave the treat so it comes back an then pick the dog up an just tap its nose until it get flustered and say BAD DOG….. when they bark usually they want somthing…..maybe there is a toy stuck somwhere or maybe its hungry or has to go for a walk….if its non of these then what i do is say SHUT UP!!!! and maybe smackem when they bark an each time they bark yell at them to stop untill they finally give up… my dog hates givein up but that tactic usually works….Sometimes it will still make extremely silent yelps..what u should do then is the same exact thing…just shhout HEY untill they sstop…yeah that works……lol trust me …u’ll get the hang of it….maybe u should try a more calm dog…lol
You could try scolding him/her, or buying a Muzzle. But if someone tries to come in your house you kind of want him/her to bark.
Take your dog for long walks, exercise the dog more and get some obedience training. If nuisance barking is a problem do not leave your dog outside alone it is quite bothersome to the neighbors.
Show him your boss and you can stop him.
Give your dog attention.
Teach your dog to speak on command, then you can teach it to be quiet
DOGS BARK!!!!! you are crazy! dogs bark to warn you when danger is around!! get over the barking and don’t punisht he dog for barking. if you train the dog not to bark, whe danger really is aroung, you will have no way of knowing untill it is too late
