How Do I Stop My Dog From Barking at the Doorbell While Chasing and Biting Me to Get to the Door?

my corgi is now 8months old and has a habit of barking at the doorbell. He also chases after me trying to bite me while i get to the door. I don’t use a clicker for training nor do i have a trainer. His barking noise drives me crazy and when he bites, it really hurts. Anyone know how to stop my dogs unruly behavior?

Teach him to sit and stay when the door bell rings. Use it like a clicker. Have someone ring the door bell and make him sit. Then praise him or give him a treat. Keep him on lead until he gets it. As for the heel nipping. it is the nature of the breed. That is how they rounded up farm animals.
You wat to have someone planned to be there at the door to ring door bell when you tell them over and over muzzle your dog! have then to ring the doorbell if the the dog jumps or barks pay no attention turn away! this will teach the dog it wont get your attention when you take muzzle off then you need to when she snaps @ you need to firmly say NO! then tap him on the nose hard reward for good behavior
8 months hmm… well it will be a tiny bit more difficult than a younger puppy but hes still a puppy so it should be fairly simple.
you have to have 2 people to train your dog not to bark at the door. every day, practice with your dog and it should work.
ok,
1. have the person who is helping you train stand outside and ring the doorbell.
2. after he barks once or twice say QUIET just once in a stern voice (this lets the dog do what he naturally wants to do which is alert you of a possible intruder on his territory which can sometimes be a good thing)
3. do not open the door until barking has completely subsided.
4. eventually your dog will realize you will not open the door until he is quiet
5. when barking has stopped slowly open the door
6. if he starts barking again, close the door until dog is again quiet
7. repeat until the person can make it fully inside without your dog barking. when door is shut and dog is quiet, give a treat this teaches that when someone comes over, good things happen, instead of when someone comes over, i need to alert danger and protect my domain.
even if your dog goes completely ballistic when the door bell rings, this training tactic does work. it will take time sometimes a few weeks of practice. but it does work. have you and your training partner practice 2 to 3 times a day at different times if possible.
when your doorbell actually rings, always have a treat somewhere in close proximity. you should also hang a sign on the door saying something like we are teaching our dog not to bark so if it takes a while please be patient. thanks
