How Can We Stop Our Dog From Barking in the Car?

We have a 10 month old german shepherd lab mix, and we have a behavioral problem that we are just not to sure how to fix. Our pup loves going in to the car, and since he is a dog with a very thick coat we often take him up to the lake for a swim. The only problem is that he has a problem of barking consistently in the car. It is a very loud bark so it makes the car ride very long (even the it is actually only a 5 minute ride). If you have any suggestions on how to make him stop barking in the car we would like to hear them. I have seen barking muzzles but i would prefer not to use one unless i have no oher chose.
