How Can I Stop My Dog From Constantly Barking at Every Noise and at People?

Whenever my dog goes outside he is usually good but as soon as he sees another person he starts barking and barking and will not stop. The other day when we were stepping out the door he jumped onto one of the neighbors and started jumping all around his feet and barking at him. When we are inside he barks at any and every sound he hears. I have a training book that states to keep him away from these distractions but how can I keep him away from people and noise. He is a 10-month old Yorkshire Terrier. I just don’t know what to do. We live in an apartment so he is always going to see other people and hear noises from outside or wherever so it is impossible to remove the things that seems to make him bark. Any help will be appreciated.

I had a dog that used to bark on any sound, persons, cat another dog etc while in home. But when I take him out he does not bark or trouble but pull me through out the road and back.

Normally all dogs have territorial control or ownership. When somebody enters his/her territory he is excited and starts defending it.

barking is terifying , you can hide things from dog sense them or train them such that whenever known fellows visit home not do so

I had the same problem! I have a yorkshire too! It depends on your dog, but this is how I solved my problem.

You need to walk your dog more often, DAILY, so that he becomes accustomed to it. Also have your dog get used to meeting different people in your own house and other dogs. Soon, when he sees new people, he will be used to it and probably will bark less.

And if he does bark, hold him in your arms, look face to face with him, show that you’re angry, and if it still persists, SLIGHTLY swat him so that he knows that you don’t want him to bark.

Make sure that you have a firm grip on the leash. Some people don’t like dogs so you need to make sure your dog is in control.

My dog still jumps around and sniffs strangers, but he doesn’t bark anymore. Hope this helped!

I found something that works for me, is a spray bottle. Put some water only in it and spray your pup with it. It will not hurt him. And every time it acts out just give it a little spray. Eventually after a couple dozen times, it will know that if I bark something is going to spray and it will stop. Or you could go the more expensive route and there is a collar on the market (check WalMart) that every time it acts out, you push a button and it gives it a little zap. But I think I would try the water bottle first. Good Luck!

Start by socializing him with people and other dogs. Don’t let him get bored either. Enroll in a training course. Yorkies can become nuisance barkers but have to be controlled and taught good manners. However just be aware that if he were the size of a Labrador, your visitors and neighbors might be somewhat intimidated and complain.

Dogs also bark from isolation and loneliness. But it sounds like your pooch is a nervous barker and that can be corrected. I have a house dog, who doesn’t like strangers coming to the front door and is suspicious of all he doesn’t know, so I have to be careful that he has no close contact with them when I am not around. Even when he hears a front door bell on TV!

But he goes to training. And is fine with people he knows, but at first shied away from most until he got to know them.

Citronella collars can help for a time, but it only works while they have the collar on of course.

He’d make a good watch dog though, provided he doesn’t bark and bark for no reason at all. In an apartment if he is left alone he could be driving your neighbors mad from barking from loneliness.
